The minister of sports and chairman national sports commission, Ibrahim Isa Bio has said he has lost contact with embattled Nigerian CAF and FIFA executive committee member, Dr Amos Adamu;  since he was provisionally suspended by the world football governing body over the alleged cash for vote scandal.

Responding to questions Tuesday in Abuja, Bio said he called Adamu to confirm his involvement in the cash for vote allegation and Adamu but denied it.

“It was shocking to hear the news of the alleged bribery involving Fifa executive committee members of which Dr Amos Adamu was one of them. I immediately called him on his mobile phone and he told me it was not true, and I asked him if he could prove his innocence? That was the last we spoke until he and five others were suspended. Since the suspension, I’ve not called neither has he,” Bio said.

Continuing, Bio said, “we are waiting for the final pronouncement from FIFA, which we were told would be made mid November.”

He however expressed that government has zero tolerance for acts of corruption.
“While the world awaits the final outcome of Fifa investigation, I wish to re-state emphatically that this government has zero tolerance for acts of corruption at all levels.

“In the vent that Fifa findings confirm the allegations, Nigerian anti-corruption agencies would take appropriate action” Bio said.

The NSC boss however emphasised that the Commission cannot take any official position on the matter concerning the purported bribery scandal.

“Our perception of the development is that it is purely a Fifa matter and recent reports confirm it is already under investigation. The news came to us as a big surprise”, he added
