Austin Eguavoen
blamed a ‘sloppy start’ after the Super Eagles were beaten 1_0 by Guinea in their 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier in Conakry on Sunday.
A tentative Nigeria were carved open by a simple give and go, allowing Kevin Constant to fire past Vincent Enyeama from close range after just five minutes.
Eguavoen was not amused. “It was a sloppy start from us. We played really badly in the first half, and we were punished for one lapse in concentration,” he said.
“But we improved in the second half and played much better. “We should have scored but it didn’t happen.”
Eguavoen will now stand down.
