Physically-challenged in Jigawa to get free artificial limbs

Dutse — Cripples in Jigawa State will soon get free artificial limbs, the pioneer President of Joint Association of People With Disability, JONAPWD, Mr. Paul Adelubu, has disclosed.

Adelubu dropped this hint during the Ramadan dinner the disabled persons in the state had with the state governor, Sule Lamido. He said the association will collaborate with artificial limb experts from Indian.

He further explained that the artificial limbs cost between N70,000 and N75,000 each, adding that it will
be given out freely to members of the association. He thanked the state government for assisting the disabled persons in the state.

Commenting on the severance allowances introduce by Lamido’s led-administration to cripples, he noted that such allowances have been existing in the United State of America, USA, for over 25 years.

On 2011 elections

He then assured that the disabled in the state will turn out en masse in 2011 general election to support the incumbent governor.

He said: “Lamido is a true descendant of late Mallam Aminu Kano. Imagine a serving governor of a state serving disabled with food in Nigeria. It is unbelievable.”

On Lamido’s achievements

He also stressed that it is only in Jigawa State that the disabled get employment opportunities in the state public service. He then called on concern citizens, donor agencies to invest in disabled persons through enhancing the education of people with disability through the introduction of special education in the state.

Adelubu said: “When Governor Lamido introduces the payment of the monthly allowances when he took over power, people were strongly against it, but now it has yielded fruitful result as beggars have been drastically reduced on our streets.”

Commissioner
for Health responds

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammed Nashabaru, advised people with disability to always wash their hands with ashes, soap and water after visiting toilets. He also cautioned them to always keep their environment clean at all times.

The Commissioner also urged them to always take their wards to the health centre closer to them for routine medical check-up against the outbreak of polio, tuberculosis and other deadly disease.
