Kaita begs for Eagles recall

Sani Kaita, remember him? He is the Eagle whose wings were clipped at the South Africa 2010 World Cup when he bagged “the most stupid red card in World Cup history”. Kaita hit back at a Greek player in apparent retaliation to “a racist stunt.”

Suggestions that the hardworking midfielder was to head for Greece for a professional stint just after the World Cup soon evaporated as the player rather opted for Ukrain to pitch tent with Metalist Kharkov.

Since his last match with the Eagles at the World Cup, the former Monaco player has been on a temporary ‘exile’. Now he wants to take back his place in the national team. Kaita is hoping that getting playing time with new club will earn him a recall to the Super Eagles.

Kaita was demonized by Nigeria fans after getting himself sent off against Greece at the World Cup, a situation that left a brittle Nigeria team

Kaita made his first appearance for the side in t hopelessly exposed, and finally broken by Greece in a 2-1 win.
He made his first appearance for the club in their 5-0 Europa League win at Debrecen, coming on for the final quarter of an hour. He followed that up with another substitute appearance in their 1-0 league win at Arsenal Kyiv.

Stand_in Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen was expected to name his squad to face Guinea during the week in an early but decisive African Nations Cup qualifier in Conakry and Kaita says he is hoping for an international recall.
“The move to my new team is a boost for me. I am doing well at the moment playing in my natural defensive midfield role.
