IT World out with biometric keyboard, mouse

Computer accessories market has added another advanced hardware to its stock as fingerprint keyboard and mouse made its debut in the computer village, Vanguard CyberLIFE learnt.

According to a staff of IT World, leader in digital photography in the Nigerian IT market , the new products are improved version of an automatic finger placement detection technology that automatically checks for the presence of a finger. He also said that when the hardware are used with auto-on-compatible software, the keyboard will turn on and scan your finger as soon as you touch the sensor all without having to prompt the system.

“The keyboard can be used for identification and verification functions that let your fingerprints act like digital passwords that cannot be lost, forgotten or stolen” he explained.

Vanguard CyberLIFE gathered that the fingerprint keyboard can automatically adjust the brightness of the sensor to capture high quality fingerprints from a wide range of traditionally difficult fingers, including those from dry, wet, scarred or aged skin, and even in bright ambient conditions such as under direct sunlight.

CyberLIFE also learnt that fingerprint mouse is an innovative optical tracking mouse that can operate on almost any surface with exceptional response. The mouse which has ‘smart capture’ ensures quality fingerprint scanning of difficult fingers. “Your fingerprint can also be used to gain access to your system using fingerprint mouse” IT World staff added.

Common features of both fingerprint mouse keyboard and mouse are high-performance, maintenance-free optical fingerprint sensor, sensor resistant to scratches, impact, vibration and electrostatic shock and smart capture.

It was also learnt that the keyboard has standard 104-key layout and readily for any finger while the mouse has optical mouse tracking, sensor positioned on side for natural, consistent finger placement and scroll wheel and programmable buttons. When used for biometric authentication as part of an overall security program, the new products can help to reduce the hassles of password overload and decreased the risks of security breaches in computer usage. — Cyril Okoye
