Appoint a new coach now for Eagles , Shittu

Since the unceremonious departure of Lars Lagerback after the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the national team has been without a substantial coach.

Austin Eguavoen has been has been handling the team on a care-taker basis while the search for a new national team coach has been truncated by the ongoing crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation.

Super Eagles holding midfielder, Danny Shittu has voiced out his frustration and urged football authorities in the country to stabilise the system and appoint a new coach without delay.

Shittu who has been left out of the squad for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea want to see a coach named for the Eagles.

Said he, “what we need right now is to get some stability. And, it’s important for us to have a permanent coach.
Although the Eagles midfielder would not to talk about who should be appointed as coach, he believes the earlier a coach was appointed the better for the team. “I am a football player, not a politician.
“My job is to play for my country and represent it with pride.
“For me, it doesn’t matter who the Nigeria coach is. We will work with whoever is given the job. I think everyone in our team is professional enough.

“What is important is that the new coach should come in and assist the team in getting back to winnings ways. That might take time, but it has to happen.”

Shittu is still full of regret over the team’s poor outing in South Africa. “I must admit that judging by what happened in South Africa, things didn’t go that well. I think we let ourselves and our country down during that tournament.
