WARRI—CHIEF Anthony Onoharigho, a Delta State Central District Senatorial candidate for the 2011 election, has said that his resolve to end youth violence in the region led him to set up a Maritime Training College in Sapele, Delta State to train seafarers so that they can gain employment.

Chief Onoharigho stated this when he declared his intention to join the senatorial race under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. He promised to restore vibrancy in lawmaking at the exalted Upper Chambers, when he paid a courtesy call on the Delta Central PDP council chairman, at Chief Julius  Scott’s residence.

Chief Onoharigho said: “I come here, not because I am the richest man or the wisest. I came here because of the pains I have.  The vast majority of Urhobo youths are unemployed. I know I can make a difference but I need your assistance and as a private individual, I cannot achieve the goal but with your mandate, I can make a whole lot of difference”.

He noted that “many have come in the past with same promises but failed you because they were selected, i have come here to sought your votes, i am not being sponsored by anybody, i do not have a Godfather who will impose me, when you see that i am failing in my job, you can call me to order because you elected me there. I will not fail you, Urhobo will witness a change.”

“I am here to seek your consent and votes, I want to become the Delta Central Senatorial candidate, i have set up a marine college in Sapele to train youths, when the youths are unemployed they cannot become violent, an employed youth cannot become a militant.

I am not running for the Senate because I want money because I already have it, all I want is to move Urhobo nation forward, I want to make an indelible mark, together we can do it.” he added.

Responding on behalf of the Central PDP Chairmen, Chief Scott said “you are the first aspirant to approach us, you have done the right thing, we have heard you, you are a worthy son, i want you to go round the central zone soliciting for support, do not be tired and do not be discouraged, work hard to obtain the PDP ticket then we shall do all to deliver you, remember it is ‘one man, one vote’ let your campaigns be peaceful.”

Onoharigho is the present President General of Umiahwa, Abraka Kingdom of Delta State, he holds a PhD in transport Geography, and he is a managing director of various shipping and maritime companies in Nigeria and abroad.
