LAGOS—Governor Babatunde Fashola has urged Nigerians to cultivate the habit of keeping records because it could aid governance.
Fashola, who would declare open a workshop for environmental cleaners this week, made the call at the weekend during the launch and public presentation of a book entitled, My Life, written by Chief Adisa Olatunji, the Asiwaju of Itireland.
Fashola said not keeping records of event about their community, local government, state and the country when the details were still fresh in one’s memory had led to guess work and contradictions in recollection of data in the country.
He said: “I believe that if we begin to keep records, we will all have the course to do self-examination.
“Records will help us to know how to serve other human beings. It will help every human being to learn, benefit and gain experience and wisdom in which we all need to co-exist positively and to co-exist with other human beings as it concerns Nigeria.â€
The workshop for Environment cleaners is aimed at inculcating the right attitude of maintaining a cleaner Lagos.
Managing Director, Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Mr. Ola Oresanya said that the two-day event with the theme: “Cleaner Lagos, Safety First†will have major stakeholders in the environment in attendance.
According to Oresanya, the workshop of the service providers popularly referred to as “Street Sweepers†is an annual event put together by the Ministry of the Environment in collaboration with LAWMA to ensure that the sweepers are not exposed to any form of danger while discharging their duties and to also ensure that all road users were alive to safety rules and regulations.
Oresanya noted that the task of maintaining a cleaner environment and observing road and safety signs was everyone’s responsibility.
This year’s event which is billed to hold between 12 and 13 August, 2010 at the LTV8 ground, Agindingbi Ikeja.
