Come September 9th to 11th, the Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba will witness a beehive of activities, as professional and amateur golfers gather in the Delta State capital to honour late Abdullahi.

For once, since the demise of two prominent professional golfers, the captain of IGCC Hon. Daniel Mayuku has decided to sponsor a tournament in honour of someone he calls a ‘brother’ from different parents.  The memorial would have come before now but the illness of  IGCC resident pro Francis Isuku ensured that the tourney was postponed to give Isuku time to recover and be part of the show.

The memorial golf tournament in honour of late professional golfer Ali Abdullahi comes up on September 9th and 10, while amateur tee off on the 11th,  in Asaba. The event  promises to be the biggest and the best pro-am this year.

Ali and fellow pro golfer Christian Godfrey departed this world few months ago on their way to Minna where they had planned to compete in a tournament at the Minna Golf  Club. The Zaria-based player, had won a Pro-Am in Cameroon and was in high spirit hoping to add the Minna title to his collection but met his untimely death on his way to Minna as a terrible accident ensured that he did not make it to the venue of the competition.  Both golfers lost their lives on the spot of the accident along the Abuja-Minna road.

“Ali was a very good friend, someone I learnt so much from. I usually ask him to come to Asaba, so that we can always play golf. He is a nice fellow and I will miss him a lot.

He is gentleman and had a promising career but I believe God giveth and he taketh. That is why I decided to honour him with a tournament in Asaba”, Mayuku was quoted to have said.
