Calabar — The 3rd batch of former militants will commence their training at the former militants camp in Obubra, Cross River State on  August 13.
The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Co-ordinator of the Amnesty Committee, Mr. Timi Alaibe, disclosed this at the camp, yesterday, at the passing out parade of the 2nd batch of the former militants. He said that the first and second batches would commence their skill acquisition training on  August 20, at the designated centres.

According to him, “in the next batch, 1,000 former militants would be admitted into camp for the orientation and rehabilitation course.”

He also disclosed that the militants, who were not registered for the programme and who did not meet the Federal Government’s deadline on the renunciation of militantcy would wait, adding that they were being documented and undergoing verification.

According to him, “there are rules of engagement. They were given a date within which to renounce militantcy”, explaining that those who did not meet that deadline would have to be patient, as they would be attended to subsequently.

Mr. Alaibe commented that the success of the excersice has underscored the point that “we can do it and that we are committed to ensuring that ex_militants are rehabilitated, demobilized and reintegrated.”
