Abakaliki— MISTER Dave Umahi, Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi State, has advocated the adoption of the open ballot system of voting in the country to eliminate intimidation, blackmail and fraud in the nation’s electoral system. 

Umahi said weekend in Abakaliki that the system was applied in the conduct of last Saturday’s local government elections in the state, adding that it was discovered to be effective and successful.

“I recommend the option to INEC because it will eliminate a lot of bottlenecks in the 2011 election and all other subsequent elections in the country.

“The system will discourage falsification of results by any candidate,’’ he said.
According to Umahi, open ballot system is a wonderful approach that  the PDP should adopt and in its application, video machines, phone cameras should be used to monitor the elections as evidence in courts.
