AS Nigeria continued to battle with the dwindling standard of education, parents have been identified as a major factor in tackling the problem as they have an incomparable privilege and responsibility to determine both direction and how far a child goes.

Speaking at the recent graduation of 30 students of St Marcs Private School & College, Ejigbo, the Proprietress Mrs. Adeola Marcus who reminded parents that the children are like precious diamond covered with earth and takes patience to clean up, implored them to consider their ways and amend them where necessary.

“The children will reflect whom you are they see you every day and copy what you do unconsciously. Live right before them as the weight of your character determines the depth of your influence.”

Marcus charged the 30 graduating students of the school to judiciously utilise all they have learnt in school during their six_year programme, so as to find their feet in the challenging environment.

She stressed that this is necessary for them not to be overrun by the happenings in the society.
The Proprietress who boosted that the school had provided both good physical and emotional atmosphere pointed out that ensuring high personality of teachers and learning readiness from students offers a good ground for learning to take place.

Her words, “Students generally are in transition, our business is to prepare and equip them to be able to get to higher ground through adequate provision of the right environment. There is need for students to be emotionally stable else they cannot learn, personality of teachers can as well influence them and for us to know their learning readiness, we interact with the home through PTA meetings and Counseling programmes, and all these are aimed towards maintaining our standards”

She said St Marcs was called to build a total child by ensuring right footing to every child at his or her level, in readiness for continuous change of levels and to the end that every child is fully equipped for the future to take his or her position to give back to the society, parents, family and the nation at large.

The Chairman of NAPPS Ejigbo Zone, H.A. Apata, while commending the school management for their major role in educating the Nigerian child, also encouraged parents to ensure adequate provision of quality education to their children.

Akpata said “There is only one legacy to hand over to a child and that is education, education is a reliable gift that can be used anywhere to the advantage of the possessor, it is something that nobody can snatch or hijack from you. In this competitive society of ours, equip your child rightly with the materials needed to survive in our world.”

The high – points of the event were stage performances by the students including, cultural dance, choreography and drama amongst others.
