Ogun faults EFCC over arrest of officials

ABEOKUTA—The Ogun State Government on Monday blamed the Economic and Financial Crime Commission for launching an unjustified onslaught against its officials.

The State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sina Kawonise, who spoke on behalf of the government, made this declaration at a briefing in Abeokuta,

Kawonise advised the anti-graft agency not to be political in carrying out its exercise, adding that the agencies persistent interrogations of the state’s officials based on petitions he said were from jobless politicians was baseless.

Aside the Director-General of the Bureau of Lands, Mr.Gbenga Ogunnoiki, who were arrested few weeks ago and detained for three weeks, the EFCC stormed the Gateway State on July 19, 2010 and arrested no fewer than seven casual workers of the Bureau.

There have been allegations at different times over missing N30 billion, N36 billion and N2.3billion at the Lands Bureau.
