MTN graduates more musical talents

By Emmanuel Elebeke
The youth empowerment initiative of the MTN Foundation, under its Cooperate Social Responsibility Education programme which started some years ago,  last week, recorded another mile stone.

This is as the Foundation in partnership with the Mucon School of Music, graduated a total of 29 music experts after a two years intensive training  in the Lagos school  of music.

Presenting the graguands to the public at the graduation ceremony, the Director, Muson School of Music, Mrs. Marion Akpata  said she was pleased to see the 3rd set of beneficiaries of the MTN CSR initiative graduating in style, as the Nigerian music, the cultural history of Nigeria will look back with praise for the wisdom of the Board of Trustee and the MUSON founding fathers for giving the country the Mucon music  school that has established the standard of music education.

She commended the  generosity of MTNF for their continued support to their  programs and students with their full tuition and books scholarships together with the N250 per day transportation subsidy that had  made the success of the school possible.

Through MTNF, she noted that  nine violinists of the school were able to take advantage of the scholarship to study the Suzuki method of teaching the violin to very young children, leading MUSON to star its own Suzuki program.

As to the question often asked about the career prospects of the graduands after graduation, Mrs. Akpata said “Many of our students will take up teaching appointments.

We at MUSON have hired our own which was clearly shown in last week’s basic school concert where most of the teachers were MUSON graduates. We hire our graduates as theory markers, practical examiners and competition adjudicators.  We also, give our new examiners and adjudicators special training and our methods courses train teachers with both school and studio teaching techniques.
