A 64 year old retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, (name withheld) has been arrested in connection with last week’s kidnap of a woman and her three children in Warri.Â
He is accused of facilitating the escape of one of the suspected kidnappers at Kokori village in Ethiope East Council area of Delta State.
Sunday Vanguard gathered that the retired DSP allegedly prevailed on the community youths to release the kidnap suspect who had earlier succeeded in escaping arrest when security agents on their trail invaded their hideout in the village.
Kokori youths were said to have kicked against the presence of the suspect in the community and invited security agents to come for him only for the chief to threaten them to release him before the arrival of the security team.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the station, CSP Effiong Okon referred Sunday Vanguard to the state Police Public Relations Officer in Asaba over the matter saying investigation was still on-going.
