WARRI—LOCAL Government Area  workers’ executives in Delta State, have been charged to be loyal to their council boss and desist from constituting themselves into demi-gods, bent on  truncating council’s set objectives. The workers were also warned against  disobeying the rules of engagement.

The president of the Delta State Chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Mr David Ofoeyeno gave the charge,  at a 3-day workshop on ‘Effective Management of Dispute and Industrial Arbitration’ for Union leaders in the Unified Local Government Service Commission of Delta State,  organised by the Commission in Asaba.

Ofoeyeno advised the union leaders from the 25 local government areas in the state to always explore dialogue in negotiating for the rights of council workers, admonishing them to remember that at the end of their tenure as union leaders,  they would go back to their various offices to work under the council management they had previously been rude to in the name of unionism.

He also warned against wielding the big stick of declaring strike, when other means of dispute resolution have not been fully explored,  saying that strike action should be the last option.  He appealed to the various council managements in the state to be pro-active in the running of councils affairs.
While assuring serving and retired local government employees of due recognition of their contribution to the system, he said that the union will always reward hard work and presented gift items and cash rewards to over 25 retirees at the NULGE Secretariat.

The occasion which was attended by the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr Abdulwaheed Omar, Gneral Secretary of NULGE, Mr  Muhamed  Goewam, Chief Nkem Okuofu of the Local Government Service Commission also had Mr  Mike Okeme in attendance.
