NIPCO plc, an indigenous downstream company has pledged to sustain its campaign on the economic and environmental benefits of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) usage as cooking gas to the Nigerian populace.
Managing Director of the company, Mr Girish Sanadhya gave the pledge in a message on the occasion of the Governing Council meeting of the Nigeria LP Gas Association (NLPGA) hosted by Nipco in Lagos recently.
He noted that the driving force of the organization’s numerous campaign on LPG usage was to erase the misconceptions on this hydro_ carbon resource in the overall interest of all stakeholders.
He also told the audience comprising of major stake holders in the gas sector that the company has expended enormous human and material resources in educating and stepping up awareness on the use of LPG for household cooking as well as for powering of vehicles and machines.
“We had sponsored jointly and individually campaigns aimed at boosting and deepening the gas market such as LPG Summit organized by Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), exhibition of LPG powered vehicle on World environment Day in 2009”, he asserted.
These campaigns, he noted, is against the backdrop of the lack of consumer awareness on the use, availability, safety and other benefits such as reducing deforestation and carbon_ dioxide emission, improved health and enormous business opportunity there in.
He pointed out that the company had gone this far to avail the populace the benefits of using LPG over other conventional fuels as source of energy especially in the realm of household cooking.
Mr. Sanadhya disclosed that the company is in process of improving access to gas by installing skid tanks to serve dual purpose of re_filling cooking gas cylinders and filling vehicles with auto_ fuel.
The M.D informed that the LPG skid which is the latest technology in the dispensing of gas for household and vehicular use is like a mini filling station with a surface tank dispensing pumps and meters.
He noted that the skids which the company is currently deploying to its branded outlets across the country marks another chapter in the organization’s quest for better access to LPG for present and potential users across the country.
Against the foregoing, Mr Sanadhya said that hosting the meeting is an opportunity to extend its frontiers of hospitality with the association members in their quest to remove all impediments that could derail the current efforts in expanding the use of LPG.
He commended the leadership of the Association led by Alhaji Anwalu Ulu for their doggedness in making government provide some fillip to LPG marketers in their drive to improve consumption in the country. In his remarks, NLPGA Vice_ President Mr Dayo Adesina lauded Nipco for providing a congenial environment for the council meeting and its great efforts in the sector.
