Irked by the rise in the rate of road accidents in the country, the Association of  Surgeons of Nigeria, ASON, has called  for the establishment of  more trauma centres in order to improve access to trauma care in the country.

National President of ASON, Dr. Okon  Bassey made the call at the 6th Annual Congress of ASON, held at National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu. At the congress were surgeons from across the country, representatives of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Red Cross and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC.

He said that the management of trauma  victims, especially at  the pre-hospital stage has been  observed to be poor and not well co-ordinated by the various agencies.
