The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) said on Tuesday that it would establish two software development centres in 2010. Prof Cleopas Angaye, the Director-General, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja. Angaye said one of the centres would be located in the  northern part of the country and the other in the southern part.

However, he said their specific locations would be determined after the conduct of proper feasibility study. He said that the centres, when established, would provide training in the areas of web design, software production, software engineering and software programming.

He said the idea was to ensure proper working of the computer system and information technology in the country.
The director-General said NITDA would employ software engineers  to train Nigerians in various areas to boost IT utilisation industry in the country.

“We have been discussing the issues of providing more software  personnel in the country because we believe that this is the only way Nigeria can contribute meaningfully to this knowledge-based economy. “We propose to set up two software centres in the country. With theses, Nigeria can provide a lot of software developers in the country and in the continent at large in the long run,” he said.
