Smarting from a survey of internet problems militating against growth of small and Medium sized businesses in Nigeria, Pioneer Internet Service Providers in Nigeria, Linkserve limited, has announced an innovation to bridge the gap.

Linkserve said it went out of its way to salvage the small and medium size business operators who may face extinction due to high cost of bandwidth and inadequate internet infrastructure to grow their businesses by partnering with  two world leaders in Satellite communication, Viasat and Intelsat for  mass roll out of Blast Broadband VSAT solution.

Blast Broadband, according to Linkserve is specially designed to meet the connection needs of homes, small and medium sized businesses. It is an integration of the widely_used terrestrial wireless industry technology with the latest in advanced and proven satellite technology.

Blast Broadband is based on Viasat’s Surfbeam Broadband System. It is a totally new kind of satellite_based system designed expressly for building broadband access networks and very unlike the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) systems.

Announcing the development, last week, CEO of Linkserve, Mr Chima Onyekwere said that his company was starting the deployment of the solution by making the equipment (CPE)  much cheaper at 55,000 Naira as a way to support the economy during this period of challenging financial constraints. He believes that the only way to make internet solution appealing to small home offices, small businesses, individual homes and lots more, was to reduce the equipment and connection costs so as many more people could afford it.

Linkserve said it made a major capital investment in the Uptime 3 HUB Full redundancy of  Surfbeam manufactured by Viasat to ensure the highest uptime availability of up to 99.99%, adding that downtime has been a challenge in the Nigerian market and as a way to mitigate against this, the Hub has capacity to support concurrently over 2 million subscribers.

This is even as acceleration of the IP traffic within the HUB  increases performance and throughput allowing for more bandwidth to be used by a customer while maintaining a lower cost structure.

Onyekwere said that already his company has secured a huge deployment of over 250 units pre launch sales programme for this solution designed for Corporate, home users and educational institutions with multiple deployments.

He said the streaming capacity of the solution would enable Churches, distance learning, Educational and institutional organization and religious organizations, reach multiple sites at a very affordable costs. Effectively reducing travelling cost. The solution also provides a platform for many other exciting features and services for the customers including Voice over IP (VoIP), Direct To Home (DTH), Advanced Quality of Service (QoS), Multicasting and accelerated IP/Web-centric applications.

Meanwhile Managing Director of the company, Mr. Victor Oisaghie, described Blast Broadband as a satellite_based technology moulded on Viasat’s Surfbeam, which is completely unlike what is currently obtainable in the market.

He added that “the SurfBeam system is the only all_inclusive networking system designed from the very beginning to deliver highly scalable, high performance consumer/small_office and small_medium enterprise (SME) broadband services over satellite. Blast Broadband is that internet experience Nigerians have been waiting for. It is fast, cheap, reliable and  not subject to natural interference”. He averred.
