The understanding between the Nigeria Football Federation and The Presidential Task Force on Lagerback and his remuneration is yet to be smooth.
The Swede was unveiled in Abuja last Wednesday and shortly after, he left for home. He returns tomorrow to begin work in earnest. And the Football Federation, we gathered, has asked the Presidential Task Force to release $600,000 for his upkeep. $300,000 will be part of his salary and the remaining $300,000 for renting of a house for him, hiring of stewards, drivers and security at his residence.
The Task Force, we gathered, would not want to deal on the matter the way the federation presented. They are interested in paying the man’s $1.3 million dollars salary and no other thing.
“We agreed to take care of the salary of a new coach and nothing more. The federation receives grants from FIFA and etc. They
should sort other things out with their grants,†one PTF source said. That didn’t impress the federation for the fact that the PTF insisted on foreign coach and vowed to shoulder the responsibilities.
If the PTF does not act promptly, Lagerback may just be another number to the past experiences of some coaches who battled time and officials to get paid their remuneration.
