Newly appointed Eagles’ technical adviser, Lars Lagerback burnt the ‘midnight candle’ and was adequately ready to take on for the Nigeria Football Federation interview panel, which screened four other coaches for the position.

Lagerback’s agent Greg Keenan and chief executive of aspire management disclosed that his client, carefully studied the Eagles’ tapes especially their last game against Ghana at the 2010 Nations Cup. He added that, his contacts in Abuja did a whole lot of work to prepare Lagerback for the interview session.

“Lars saw copy of the recent Nigeria vs Ghana game to watch before the interview. So identified the strengths and weaknesses of the current squad.

“He also spent a considerable amount of time preparing a PowerPoint presentation. This presentation was widely perceived as an integral factor in his appointment,” said the agent.

He said that the process that brought up Lagerback was transparent, adding that the big Swede may extend his contract, if the both parties are satisfied with the present arrangement.

“If both parties agree, there will be a subsequent round of negotiations for a new deal after the World Cup.
“We would envisage this being for around a further four years to take them to the next World Cup,” said Mr. Keenan.
He disclosed that Lagerback already had his own assistant, Roland Andersson who has worked with him during his time with the Swedish national team.

“This appointment was dealt with simultaneously with the appointment of Lars. It was a prerequisite of him taking the position.

‘All appointments will need to be approved by Lars and he will have the final say on all team and back room staff matters. Lars would not agree to take a position on any other basis,”
