UYO — A GROUP, Supreme Council of Ibiono Ibom Youth Leaders (SCIYOL), has advised the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to shelve any ambition of seeking a third term ticket, saying it was opposed to elected political office holders from the area perpetuating themselves in office.
The group also said it would mobilise support towards another four-year tenure for the state governor, Godswill Akpabio, having performed well within a short period.
The group, in a communiqué signed by Professor Enefiok E. Essien and Dr. Antiabong Ekong at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting held at Ibiono Ibom, said power should be rotated among the five sections of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
“We are insisting that power should rotate among the five sections of the local government for equity and justice, since all the zones have people who are capable of, and qualified to occupy such office as the state House of Assembly,†the group said.
Criticising the current Speaker over his inability to attract any tangible develop-ment project to his constituency, the group added that the lawmaker did not help in curbing crime in the state.
It further promised to resist any attempt by the speaker to use state apparatus to ensure he secured a third term in 2011.
Those at the stakeholders forum includes Dr. Antiabong Ekong, Ho. Parchi Umoh, Hon. Emmanuel Udoh, Barrister Imeh Akpan, Chief Anselem Eyo, Obong Nsima Umoh.
Others are Comrade Ini Ememobong, Barrister Mrs Bessie Utibe Uko Prof. Offiong Ekop and comrade Moses Essien, among others.
