The vacuum created recently by the demotion of Super Eagles coach, Shaibu Amodu to handle the home-based Eagles may rob Nigeria participation at this month’s pre-tournament Team Workshop for technical officials, especially head coaches of the 32 participating countries for the 2010 World Cup.

FIFA wrote that “Delegates from the 32 participant teams at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ will be in Sun City, South Africa, on 22, 23 and 24 February 2010 for the pre-tournament Team Workshop (and) so far 20 out of the 32 national team Head Coaches have confirmed their attendance.”

Nigeria is the only African team yet to confirm the participation of her team’s head coach, according to the statement sent to Vanguard Sports yesterday. She is among the 12 yet to confirm participation for the workshop.

According to FIFA, the workshop, which will be the largest and most important session in the run-up to the 2010 finals, “will provide a detailed introduction and insight for the 32 teams on every aspect of the tournament organisation.”

It was not clear if the Nigeria Football Association has duly confirmed the participation of other officials expected to attend the workshop, which FIFA says is very crucial “for head coaches, team managers and general secretaries and is a mandatory appointment for the official and technical specialists, including media officers, security managers and team doctors.”

FIFA said that prior to the main workshop, team doctors of each participating country are expected to attend the 3rd International Football Medicine Conference also taking place at Sun City from 19-21 February,2010.

Apart from South Africa, Ghana, Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon, the other countries whose head coaches have confirmed their participation are Australia, Brazil, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. Others are New Zealand, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and Uruguay.
