Former NFA board member, Elder Bode Oyewole has declared the present set  of players who played in the opening game of the Nation’s Cup in Angola as the worst thing that has ever happened to the Super Eagles..

Elder Oyewole, who had expressed reservation on the calibre of players selected to do battle for the Eagles in Angola said the players were not ideal, especially as some of them were not physically fit, adding that nothing could have been expected from players who are not good enough for their clubs.

“In this country, when you  speak the truth, people will say one is not patriotic, especially when it has to do with one’s country. Anything that has to do with a country has to do with the interest of the public. Talking about the match, I was not surprised especially with the kind of players in his team.

“Some of these players are injured and have not played in their clubs for so long, some are bench warmers. With such players, what do you expect. I have said this severally, that the selection was not good but they seemed not to listen, now see what is coming out.

I believe players should be selected based on merit and not on sentiment. How can you put players that are not fit and are not doing well, why  Yusuf Mohammed when Chidi Odiah is fit for that position . It’s  really disappointing.
