Senate President, David Mark, yesterday expressed displeasure at the standard of play of the Green Eagles in the on-going African Cup of Nations in Angola.

Mark, who reacted to the Eagles’ play against the Squirrels of Benin Republic which the team won by a slim 1-0 margin, said the Eagles were actually struggling in the competition.

According to him, the team has not shown that it can go far in the competition and urged the technical crew and players to brace up, if Nigeria must make any impact in the tournament.

“The team is actually struggling; the boys have not shown any fitness and are not playing like a team that can win this cup,” the senate president said.

He shrugged off any likely improvement of the team as the tournament progresses, stressing that though the team beat the Beninoise, the boys have not shown class.

Mark said the boys and technical team have been motivated well enough to perform well in the tournament, but wondered why they are not justifying the investment put in the team by the government.
