The players and officials base their optimism on the calculation that Malawi easily dismissed Algeria who were almost at par with Egypt during the World Cup qualifiers. Algeria needed a play off to qualify and having fallen so easily to Malawi Egypt who struggled with them may not be hot against Eagles.
But football does not necessarily follow logic.
And when the Eagles line out today to battle the defending champions coach Shaibu Amodu would be banking on what he did in training to achieve result.
He had emphasised on quick reaction to enable the players explode into blistering pace which they lacked throughout the World Cup qualifying stages.
The result will prove whether he has done a good job or not. He will rely on the following players to do him and the country proud:
In goal will be Vincent Enyeama. In a 4-3-3 formation, Joseph Yobo will be in the central defence with Obinna Nwaneri. Mohammed Yusuf and Taye Taiwo will man the full back positions. The midfielders to play in front of them will be Yusuf Ayila, Mikel Obi and Dickson Etuhu.
The three attackers will be Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Kalu Uche who will have the special instruction to cover the left side of the striking role but to always fall deep
