Despite losing 1-3 to defending champions Egypt in their opening game of the 27th Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles still got $5,000 (about N740,000) for five shots on target, courtesy of Tom Tom, the Official Candy of the Nigerian national football teams.
Although Nigerians were disappointed by the result of Tuesdayâ€™s game, the Commercial Director of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, Idorenyen Enang, urged his compatriots to rally behind the team as they engage the Squirrels of Benin Republic on Saturday at the same venue and Mozambique on January 20 at Lubango.
â€œWe have a good reason to feel outraged by the result but this is the moment that the Super Eagles need us more than ever before,â€ Enang said.
He was full of hope that the team would rise up to the occasion and assured the players and officials that Tom Tom would not relent in its determination to see them through the campaign in Angola.
When it appeared that the Super Eagles might not qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and many Nigerians lost interest in the team, Tom Tom never wavered in its belief in the side. Eventually, the World Cup ticket was delivered at the last minute.”
