Chairman of Bayelsa United, Chief Victor Baribote’s quest to land in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Board, received a major boost yesterday in Abuja with Premier League clubs from the South-South zone endorsing his candidacy.

In an election that was conducted at Chida Hotel’s room 102, Baribote was unanimously endorsed by the clubs. Representatives of Bayelsa United, Ocean Boys, Dolphins and Sharks voted for Baribote while Warri Wolves failed to vote.

Coordinator of the South-South zone, Effiong Johnson, who confirmed the development, was however quick in pointing out that Warri Wolves officials who arrived the venue late filed a protest insisting that they must have a say in who flies the ticket of the zone.

“Because of the protest of Warri Wolves, we have decided not to officially announce the result, but the four other clubs from the zone endorsed the candidacy of Baribote,” Johnson said.

It would be noted that football stakeholders from the zone had at an earlier meeting held a fortnight ago at Uyo, resolved that Bayelsa State will produce the zone’s NPL Board member while the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ticket was seeded to Rivers State.
