BOLTON Wanderer’s defensive bulwark, Daniel Shittu, has said that playing as a unit would be the only way that the Eagles can win the Nations Cup in Angola.

“Individually, we’ve got stars in our squad. But all we need to do well and perhaps win the Nations Cup is for us to play as a team. That is the only recipe that will make us beat the rest of Africa in Angola”, the bulky defender who came to limelight  during the African Cup of Nations in Ghana said on Brila FM. He was not alone.

Locomotiv of Russia attacking jewel, Osaze Odemwingie, also posited that Nigeria was in a good position to win the Nations Cup. “We’ve what it takes to win the Nations Cup. We have gone through thick and thin and I think that we understand ourselves very well to spring surprises in the Nations Cup”, he said.

The Eagles are expected to fly out to Durban, South Africa, tomorrow and would train for eight days before storming Angola for hostilities at the Nations Cup. Grouped alongside defending Champions, Egypt, Mozambique and Benin Republic, Osaze said that Nigeria would come out triumphant from a group that many term to be tricky. “

We respect all teams and also reckon that Egypt are the defending champions. But they should be wary of playing Nigeria. I am sure that we will qualify with one other team”, he said.

Coach Shaibu Amodu  was not less confident when he said that even though the Eagles did not impress many people, “there is something special that made us not lose any game throughout our qualifiers. It is an advantage to us and we are going to the Nations Cup with that strength and spirit. We have the capacity to do well and make Nigerians proud”, Amodu added.
