Akpoyibo orders raid on criminal hideouts

By Evelyn Usman
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Marvel Akpoyibo, has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to carry out raid on criminal hideouts and black spots within their jurisdictions, with a view to curbing crime during Christmas.

The directive, according to the command’s spokesman, Mr Frank Mba, was part of the command’s proactive measures towards ensuring that crimes was minimally reduced in the state.

The directive, Mba said, had begun to yield the desired result following the arrest of some suspects. The recent raid carried out by Policemen from Ilemba Hausa division, he said, led to the recovery of 204 wraps of substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspects, substance and exhibits, he said, would be handed over to the National Drug Law enforcement Agency for necessary action

In another development, the command has arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the death of  22-year-old man, Monday, during an argument over N50.

But the suspect, who was paraded before newsmen, yesterday at the Oduduwa office of the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said that the deceased died following injuries he sustained during a fall, maintaining that he never raised his fist against him.

Explaining how the suspect was arrested, Mba said, “we got information that there was a fight between Seyi Olaiya(suspect) Usman Yahaya(deceased) at Akinmodo, Mile 12, during an argument over N50,in the process of which Usman was killed.

“The autopsy report established that Usman died as a result of the injuries he sustained during the fight and this is a clear case of Homicide”, he added.
