VP tasks sports administrators on facilities

THE Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jona-than, has charged Nigerian sports administrators not to allow the facilities used for the just-concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup tournament hosted by Nigeria to decay, saying they should be used for quality football competitions that will sufficiently mobilize the talents of Nigerian youths.

He said this at the closing ceremony of the concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup tournament which held at the National Stadium, Abuja.
According to Dr. Jonathan, “Let me also charge you that excellent facilities provided in the various venues of this competition must not be allowed to rot away from disuse. Our sports administrators have a duty to ensure that they are kept in use.”

The VP also stressed the need for Nigeria to improve on her rating at international football competitions, pointing out that, “we cannot afford to lag behind countries not as endowed as we are in the world of sports.

The VP expressed gratitude to FIFA for granting Nigeria the hosting right for the cadet football competition, noting that having successfully hosted an exciting tournament.

, Nigeria has justified FIFA’s confidence on the country.Jonathan also appreciated the passion and patriotism exhibited by all the teams that participated in the tournament, saying they have managed the joy of victory and the sadness of defeat “very admirably”. “The essence of youth football should be fair-play rather than winning at all cost,” he added.
