Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba will witness one hell of a golf tournament as the 2009 edition of the Governor’s Cup tees off on Tuesday with over 80 professional players. The 2009 edition according to IGCC Captain Hon. Daniel Mayuku promises to be different. For starters, the 18 holes facility in Asaba is wearing a new look with the entire 18 holes now looking lush green. Captain Mayuku revealed this himself and one can feel the excitement in his voice has he reeled out the programme for the event which will be teed off by His Excellency Governor Emmauel Uduaghan.

“We are ready for the Governor’s Cup. Our course is looking very good. The greens are looking good better than ever and we will be treating players and our guests to a wonderful time during the week long tournament. We are expecting top pro golfers and I can guarantee that this year, they would have it so easy. Players like Ali Abdullahi, Gift Willy, Osa Enaigbe, Francis Isuku, Andrew Oche Odoh have returned great scores in previous tournaments making the course to look cheap. But will not be the case this time around as the course as been redesigned and made more challenging”, Mayuku said.

At the end of the 72 holes event, the pros will make way for armature golfers coming from Enugu, Lagos, Abuja, Sapele, Warri, Aba, Benin and other notable golf clubs in the country as they tee off another round of hostilities on Saturday and hole out on Sunday.
