LAGOS—THE authorities of the Kirikiri Maximum Prison may have tightened its rules of engagement due to the horde of visitors who besiege the gate daily, wanting to see top politician, Chief Bode George.
George, former chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), was twoweeks agojailed by a Lagos High Court alongside four others for two and a half years.
Visitors were no longer allowed to wait or park at the visiting section opposite the entrance to the prisons gate but were moved far away, close to the power generating set.
Since the arrival of the former PDP National South-West Chairman, penultimate Monday, his supporters and friends have turned the prison to a tourist centre as they visited daily.
However, it could not be ascertained the reason behind the new directives, but sources said the prison authorities were conscious of the security situation there.
“Looking at the number of people who come to the prison daily, you will be shocked. We don’t know who is who and what their agenda is but we will not take anything for granted.
”With this large crowd, we would find it difficult in checking them out properly, since they have been moved to a distance they will have to walk down to the entrance. With that we will check them,†a prison attendant told Vanguard on condition of anonymity.
