Ace broadcaster and former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Danladi Bako, OON, and former team manager of the national team, Bello Osagie have joined millions of Nigerians in congratulating the Green Eagles for picking a ticket to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

In his reaction, Bako said the performance of the Eagles in Kenya was a true demonstration of the undying Nigerian spirit. He commended Nigerians who stood by the team throughout the campaign but reserved some special words for Mr President.

“Special thanks must be given to President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua for his foresight in setting up the Governor Rotimi Amech-led PTF. Their contributions to the success story were tremendous,” Bako enthused.

The former broadcaster who said his joy knew no bounds over the last gasp efforts employed by the Coach Amodu Shaibu tutored team to achieve what many had thought was an impossibility, implored the Nigeria Football Federation to do everything in their powers to ensure Nigeria created a good impact at the Africa Cup of Nations coming up in Angola early next year.

“Preparations for the Nations Cup must start now. We should make use of all FIFA free days so that the team can gel and play as a group before the Nations Cup,” Bako said.

Against the backdrop of the general call for the sack of Chief Coach, Amodu Shaibu, Danladi   said, “I think we should allow Amodu and Daniel Amokachi take us to Angola. Let us give them the benefit of the doubt and see how they perform.”

On his part, Bello Osagie said the Eagles qualification was God’s way of manifesting to those who have an abiding faith in Him.
“We must always believe in our ability to achieve. Nigeria is a strong football nation and the World Cup is where the best are assembled. We are the best,” he remarked.
