For adequate financing and regulation of National Insurance Health Scheme (NHIS) and in pursuance of Presidential mandate to achieve universal coverage of qualitative healthcare for to all Nigerians by 2015, the Scheme and International Finance Cooperation (IFC) yesterday signed an agreement to co-finance e-NHIS Enterprise.
The sharing formula for co-financing of the project includes; 60 per cent of the fund would be provided by IFC, while NHIS contributes 40 per cent.
The e-NHIS Enterprise (Establishment of an Information Management Scheme) was approved by the immediate past administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, as part of the restructuring and reform of the Scheme.
This Consist among other things, installation of an electronic network which will handle all transactions in the NHIS between different entities in the Scheme, such as HMOs, HCPs, Bank, Insurance Companies, Enrolees, etc.
Speaking in Abuja at the signing of agreement to kick-start planning and designing of e-NHIS Enterprise Executive Secretary NHIS, Dr. Dogo Mohammed said, “the initiative will make easy the management of the vast amounts of information generated by the scheme, integrate all facets of NHIS operations and mount the Scheme on an IT platform that will make it easy for everyone to access the Scheme and its services.
“It will also include the review of laws, regulations, and institutions that govern the health sector, build platform for managing the healthcare financing system for the nation, will enrich in modules including voice enablement to NHIS call centre, etcâ€.
