The new board of the Nigeria Golf Federation has given its final nod for the 2009 President Opento be hosted at the Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo in Akwa Ibom.

Speaking in Lagos, Luqman Owolewa the Director of Media said that the Ibom golf course has standard features and would be a good venue to host an event of the magnitude that the new NGF board is hoping to achieve with the President Cup.

He said; “in the new board we believe can make a lot of improvement on what we met on ground especially in terms of tournament organization and resuscitating the President Open is very key to that aspect of development”

He went  ahead to  state that, the President of the body, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola is keen on having the Nigerian Golf Federation help golf assume new status in the hierarchy of  sports in the country.

“The President of course is a keen golfer and has set very lofty goals for the development of the game and that is the vision the new board would be running with and I believe that at the (forthcoming) President Cup would be a ground to showcase that” he added.

The President Cup has been slated  to hold from December 1st to 6th, where professional are billed to contest over 72 holes from 1st to 4th of December and amateur’s round is scheduled over 36 holes of the concluding days.

The last edition of the event was held at the Port Harcourt Golf Club in Rivers State in December 2007 which Christian Godfrey of IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.
