ABUJA — Media Director of the Mega Summit Movement, Alhaji Hamisu San Turaki, said ,Thursday, in Abuja that the newly formed National Democratic Movement (NDM) is to work with the Mega Summit Movement to launch a formidable pro-people political party before the end of the year.

Also, the group will be hosting a two-day national retreat this weekend in Lagos on the manifesto and constitution of the proposed mega party under the chairmanship of former Lagos State Governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

A statement released by the group Media Assistant, Olubori Obafemi, said: “This is the highpoint of the consultative meeting hosted by the Northern trio of General Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa in Abuja on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by Chief Olu Falae and Sir Wale Okunniyi of the Mega Summit Movement.”

According to him, “former Vice President Atiku Abubarkar charged the two movements to, within a reasonable time frame, put in place the much expected mega alternative political platform in the interest of the country.”

His position was supported by General Buhari, Alhaji Bafarawa and other eminent political actors at the historic meeting, where the trio and their supporters openly demonstrated resolve to work together.

Turaki said: “The outcome of the parley, the decision of the two platforms to work together is not unexpected as most members of the new northern initiative are already members of the Mega Summit Movement.

“The Mega Movement has resolved to embrace all emergent initiatives committed to arresting the drift in the country. We are already in consultations with similar platforms like Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms (CODER), Labour-Civil Society Coalition and the Good Governance Group with a view to bringing all patriotic platforms into a single block to form a formidable alternative force to rescue democracy,” he said.

The statement added that “a harmonization parley of all key democrats is also being facilitated by a team comprising Dr Tunji Braithwaite, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Dr Arthur Nwakwo and Prof Pat Utomi to hold next week to resolve differences and grey areas in the march to the National Summit next month where the mega platform will be announced.
