The Vice Chancellor Redeemer University, Prof. Oyewale Tomori has called on fresh intakes of the institution who aim at getting first class to start working towards it from the first day of their admission.

He said this recently during the  matriculation ceremony of six hundred and twenty (620) fresh students for the 2009/2010 academic season at the University Chapel.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyewale Tomori told the students that the 2009/2010 set would surpass all those before them. As he put it, “it is unique that you are coming in the year we produced our first set of graduates. You have a set to compare yourselves with; you have a standard to surpass, you have a target to beat”.

Prof. Tomori predicted that the students will not fail themselves, nor would they fail their teachers and that they would not disappoint their parents. He equally said that they would not disappoint the Lord, their maker.

Prof. Tomori reminded the students that Nigeria was behind on the issue of excellence while the nation is leading on the issue of poverty. He told them that they would be the catalyst for the transformation of Nigeria. In his word, “you will walk tall in Nigeria; you will be recognized as people of honour, accomplishment and distinction, not only in Nigeria, but in the world”.

He disclosed to the students that they should see the purpose of coming to RUN as more than just getting a degree. According to him, “better than your certificate is a far greater purpose, a loftier target, a bigger task, a higher purpose, a more enormous obligation, a divinely appointed mission, a more glorious calling and a reserved ending in the heavenly mission with the Lord Jesus”.

Prof Tomori noted that by the time ‘RUN’ run through them to complete her matriculation process; they would all “become a rock in which gems are embedded”. He disclosed that through RUN, the students would be embedded in the precious and prized characteristics of decency, honesty, humility, integrity, probity, tender caring nature, virtue and just plain.

He urged the students to take full advantage of the opportunities RUN has to offer them. He further said that any student who wants to get first class must start working towards it now.
