A series of mega bucks professional golf tournaments were on the cards last year under the auspices of the PGA Nigeria Tour, but before one could day say Tom and Jerry, the tournaments expect for one, were either postponed or outrightly cancelled.  There were so much talk about UBA Prestige Golf tournament- for one, it was to have been a huge mega bucks tournament.

Players were excited about the prospect and like a bolt out of the blues, the event was called off. All manners of reasons were thrown up  for the cancellation of the event and the PGA Nigeria Tour, put it behind them and moved on. On Thursday at the Ikoyi Club golf section, UBA’s Deputy Managing Director, Nigeria South Mr. Philips Oduoza revealed that the bank had to cancel so that they could a rethink and better position the tournament in a way that it would not depend on the bank to fund it every year. According to him, the tournament is being designed like an investment that can run on its own.

“We are still working on the arrangement with the PGA Nigeria Tour. We want everything sorted out, so that when it starts, it can be self sustaining. We are also thinking about the name from UBA Prestige and running the tournament through other UBA channels”, Oduoza said.
