Former Golden Eaglets coach, Henry Nwosu, has urged Nigerians to pray for the Flying Eagles as they journey their way  to the land of Pharaoh for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Cario, Egypt, which kicks-off September 24.

The Flying Eagles, drawn in a first round group that comprises Spain, Venezuela and Tahiti, will leave Spain for Egypt on Friday. And Nwosu, a member of the 1980 Green Eagles African Nations Cup wining squad, believes with prayers from Nigerians alongside the hard work from the team could go a long way.

“The long awaited U-20  World Cup  competition is just around the corner, this is the period the players need our support and the only way we can support them is by  praying for them,” Nwosu told  Sports Vanguard  at the Union Bank Sports complex in Surulere, Lagos.  He, however, advised the head coach, Samson Siasia, to remain focussed on his target for the trophy as he believes the team will come out victorious at the end.

Meanwhile,  following a deflating 2-2 draw in Abuja penultimate Sunday, Nwosu said the chance of Nigeria qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup remains uncertain.

“With the kind of players that played us in Abuja, I don’t see us qualifying for the World Cup. It  is going to be difficult for the Tunisians to fall. We bungled our opportunity and played like a bunch of school boys and I felt really bad. I have never criticised the Eagles before but that match made me do so,” he said.
