Yola – The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola, Professor Usman Bashir, has tasked elder statesmen and stakeholders in the education sector in the country, to urgently intervene in the current face-off between the Federal Government and university-based unions, to avert a total collapse of the university system in the country.

Bashir, who made the appeal during a Sallah homage to  Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, said the intervention was absolutely necessary to resolve the current crisis as quickly as possible, adding that if care is not taken, they might be forced to cancel the whole session.

He lamented that the university was virtually collapsing as a result of protracted strike by the unions.

Bashir praised the telecommunication giant, Ericsson, a Swedish-based company for floating a GSM training centres at the Federal University of Technology, Yola, saying the company has donated a state-of-the-art equipment as part of their corporate goals of public service and called on the governor to take advantage of the centre in training its citizens as part of the skills acquisition scheme of the state government.

Governor Nyako in his respond pledged to network with his fellow governors in the country to bring about a quick and speedy resolution of the current crisis bedevilling Nigerian universities.
