The Vice-Chancellor of Caleb University, Lagos, Prof. Timothy.O. Tayo, has affirmed that staff empowerment via continuous training both locally and internationally remained a top priority of the university.

In a release signed by Mr. Abimbola Olulesi, the Head of Public Affairs of the University, Prof. Tayo gave this assurance while declaring open a two-day in-service training programme for all administrative staff of the university held during the week.

The VC stated that Caleb University decided to organise the training because a well-informed and trained staff is the backbone of good university administration. In his words, The delicate balance of manpower training, research and community service on which university operations are anchored can only be achieved if the staff saddled with responsibilities are versed in the norms of how things should operate for maximum efficiency.’

He added that Caleb University remained determined to assembling the best administrative staff to power its vision of developing a world renowned university via regular training and re-training of staff in both the Registry and Academic sectors.

The two-day training covered two major topics on the first day namely —University Administration in the 21st Century which was clinically delivered by the Registrar of Veritas University, Abuja and former Registrar of University of Ibadan, Chief (Mrs) Mojisola Ladipo.mni and Fund Raising in the Nigerian University System which was expertly handled by the Bursar, University of Lagos and former Bursar of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-lwoye, Pastor Gilbert Ifarajimi (JP).

Other topics covered on the second day were: Academic Planning in Modern day Nigerian Universities delivered by Mr Olagbemi Osasona, former Director of Academic Planning University of Ibadan; Entrepreneurial University: A Case Study of Private Universities in Nigeria, which was exhaustively treated by the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Lead City University and former Chairman of the Governing Board of Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo, Prof. Johnson B. Aladekomo and the committee system as a tool of management in the Nigerian University System  was handled by Chief (Mrs) Silifat Adedipe, pioneer Registrar of Crescent University, Abeokuta.

Since the commencement of full academic activities in January, 2008,  local and international training of .staff had been a core focus of the  ;’. “University.   For  instance,   in  2008,  the  Vice_Chancellor  attended  an executive  leadership management training  programme organised  by Manchester University in the UK in conjunction with Nigerian Institute of Management.

Similarly, later this year, academic staff will be travelling to the United States of America for one month training programme. Local trainings within the year are also planned for other cadre of non_teaching staff.

Meanwhile, construction work at the university permanent site has reached an advanced stage in readiness for movement of the university in the next academic session.

The university, going into its third academic session in September, currently runs 17 degree programmes spread across three colleges namely College of Environmental Sciences and Management (COLENSMA), College of Pure and Applied Sciences (COPAS), and College of Social and Management Sciences (COSOMAS). Mass Communication degree programme is scheduled to admit its first set of students in the 2009/2010 academic session.
