CHAIRMAN of the Nigeria Premier League, Chief Oyuki Jackson Obaseki, JP has  frowned at the way and manner the N9 million Super 4 package from Globacom is being disbursed.

The chairman in a statement,  stressed that “Globacom as the sponsor of the event does not have the absolute right to carryout directly the payment for appearance fees and prize money to teams participating in the 2009 edition of the Glo Super 4 on our behalf”.

He also added that, Globacom Limited is the sponsors of the Globacom Premier League while Nigeria Premier League is the sole organizer of the League. While stressing that it is the statutory responsibility of the Nigeria Premier League, the organizer of the Glo Super 4 Cup to handle the procedure of payment,

Chief Obaseki narrated that from inception, “NPL has always been paying appearance fees of N500,000 per club including free accommodation and feeding with the winner getting N5 million and runner-up getting N3 million as prize money”.  He condemned the initiative of Globacom paying directly to the clubs the appearance fee of N1million with prize money of N3million  for winner and runner-up getting N1.5 million.

Chief Obaseki also described the format as “ridiculous which tends to bring the league to disrepute and thereby placing us in a retrogressive position rather than progressive”.

Similarly he expressed disappointment and stressed that, “Glo’s payment format will not be acceptable and NPL will revert to the old format with the winner getting N5million, runner-up N3million and the appearance fee at N1million  per club”.

The Board is focused in taking the Nigeria Premier League to the next level which is rated the best League in Africa and with the determination to improve its rating in the world. It will be recalled that the Nigeria Premier League said it will be organizing this year’s edition of Glo Super 4 Cup from 18th -22nd August 2009 in Ilorin Township Stadium.
