NSCIA caution Muslims on moon-sighting

The Nigerian Supreme Council For Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), on Wednesday advised Muslims to be weary of peddlers of unverifiable reports of the new month of first Ramadan.

The advice was contained in a statement signed by Ustaz Amin Igwegbe and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

The statement said that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar, was the only authorised person to announce the moon sighting for the commencement and termination of the Ramadan fasting.

It explained that the Islamic authority in the country was committed to bringing sanity into the holy exercise.

The statement added that the National Moon-sighting Committee with the Sultan of Sokoto as the President General was set up to forestall incidences of frivolous announcement of moon sighting.

Meanwhile, the NSCIA in the statement wished Muslim Ummah in the country a happy Ramadan billed to commence this week.
