The First Nigeria Navy Service Co’s Cup kicked off last Sunday at the Navy Town football field, in Ojo Lagos with NNS Wey team defeating NNS Damisa 7-4 in the opening match.
In the first half, NNS Wey dominated, scoring four goals while Damisa did everything to level up in the second half but failed.
The essence of the competition, according to one of the organizers, Christian Okorodudu, is to discover buddling talents capable of playing within and outside the country.
“Our major aim is the youth, the future leaders. We want to see how we can develop and prepare them for the future. Undoubtedly, Nigeria has a rich pool of talents that are yet to be exposed and some of these talents are out there looking for opportunities like this.
“Instead of them being idle, we decided to use this medium to expose talents and if they do very well, there is every tendency that they will be chosen by any coach or sports administrator that is around watching,†he said.
The winner of this year’s event goes home with N20,000, second prize N15,000 while third position will get N10,000. 16 teams from within and outside the shores of Navy Town are taking part in the event which ends on the September 19, 2009.
