•As NFF holds AGA in Lokoja

NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi received a rousing home-coming on Monday as the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, described him as one of the brightest shining lights of the “Confluence State”.

Speaking inside the executive chamber of the “Lugard House”, Governor Idris told a gathering of the nation’s leading football administrators that Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi has lifted the name of the State brilliantly in the way and manner he is going about leading Nigeria football and prayed earnestly that the Super Eagles will qualify for next year’s FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa.

“This is one son in whom I am proud, in whom the good people of Kogi State are proud and in whom Nigerians should be proud.

Definitely, Nigerians will celebrate him when the Super Eagles eventually qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals”, said Governor Idris.

The top hierarchy of the NFF had gone to pay a courtesy call on Governor Idris ahead of 2009 Annual General Assembly of Nigeria football, which holds at the Confluence Beach Hotel today.

“Sani Lulu Abdullahi has challenged me and I am taking up that challenge. He wants to complete the work on the new Township Stadium and I have assured him that we would do that before the end of the year. I am setting up a special committee this week to look into how we can make our football better in Kogi State.

“I pray that everything will go well with your Annual General Assembly”.

Speaking earlier, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi thanked Governor Idris for his keen love for football, which is underscored by his acceptance to host the NFF’s Annual General Assembly at very short notice. “This kind of thing has never happened before.

We had banked on another state but that state pulled out at the last minute and I ran to Governor Idris who has graciously bailed us out. He has ensured that Kogi State is hosting the biggest summit of Nigeria football for the first time ever.”
