ABUJA –  John Lucas, the American coach recently contracted to handle the national basketball teams, has declared that he was yet to see the likes of Hakeem Olajuwon in the team he assembled for the forthcoming African Nations Cup Championship in Libya.

While responding to questions shortly before he led the team to Libya, Lucas said though the players in his team are good, but he said he was yet to see the likes of Hakeem Olajuwon.

“The chemistry of the team is very good; the players are very quick, very athletic. I have the passion to beat every team in Libya, but the stuff of Hakeem Olajuwon is not there yet among these players in the team. We will get there very soon.

I hope to produce many Olajuwons very shortly. My joy is that these players are very determined which is a vital ingredient to achieving the desired success. Nigeria has the potentials I will harness to realise the dream of producing many Olajuwons”, coach John Lucas emphasised.

The American, however, stated that he has got the type of players in the team that left for the Libya assignment which any coach could depend on to excel.

“I have good point guards and they have been fantastic in their respective clubs and during our three weeks of camping in the US and some days here in Abuja. With the calibre of players I have in the team, we will improve on the previous performances.”
