Less than 24 hours to the  Ekiti North Senatorial re-run election, the Independent National Electoral Commission[ INEC] has identified major obstacle that may marred today’s exercise, as it has directed the electoral officers   not to allow those with  with   conflicting names with serial numbers  to cast their votes, even as the commission has denied accreditations to  most of the election monitors/ observers who covered the last  May 6  gubernatorial re- run in the state.

The commission has equally failed to accredit all the journalists to cover the election, a development that has caused a serious concern among the pen pushers.
Speaking  with the newsmen at the state Headquarters of INEC  in Ado Ekiti yesterday at about 6.15 p.m, the Deputy Secretary, Operations of the electoral body, Abdul Rahmon Madaki who addressed the press along with the controversial Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state , Chief Mrs Ayoka Adebayo said the commission has observed that  there were some symbolic papers with irregularities, saying some are serialized , while others have none.

Adding that the  authorities of the commission have directed that papers with such an irregularities be marked as void

The  INEC boss said  all the nine  political parties that would be participating in the re-run election have been briefed of the development.

‘’The message is  any ballot  papers that does not have  serial number or having a conflicting number  shall not be used in tomorrow’s election.

‘The electoral officers have been told once they  noticed anomaly that the paper be marked void
But a chieftain of the Action Congress [AC], Mr Bimbo Daramola who was at the venue of the press briefing  lamented that it was an indirect method of denying  a number of electorates from voting , lamenting why the commission has not addressed the problem before now.

‘As things are now it appears the country is doomed, this is a clear indication that INEC has not prepared for this exercise, we are the people that identified the problem

Besides this Daramola said INEC has failed to make public names of the presiding  officers and the returning officers, saying the names of the polling officers that came out were hand- writing

‘’ We have disvovered  that out of 24 boxes , the first two boxes checked contain a lot of these irregularities and you can imagine the number of such irregularities to be discovered; Daramola declared

Meanwhile Saturday Vanguard has observed that most of the election monitors/ observers that participated in May 6 gubernatorial re-run were denied accredidations by the INEC end.
