… As Kenya athletes arrive today

Benue State governor and Athletics Federation of Nigeria honorary president, Gabriel Suswam, has guaranteed a happy ending for the Abuja Grand Prix, slated for this Saturday at the National Stadium Abuja.

Suswam, who is the chairman of the organising committee, said that every detail meant for a smooth running of the one-day meet has been put in place and according to the amiable Benue governor, it would be one of the best athletics grand prix ever organised on the African continent.

“Everything is set and we are ready to run. All financial and logistics details have been effectively covered, our aim is to present one best grand prix meet on the African continent,” said Mr. Suswam in Abuja yesterday.
Kenya athletes are the first set of runners expected from the 46 countries to arrive for the event. The Kenyans are being expected to land in Abuja tonight.

Others are expected to come in Thursday and they will have a day’s rest before the event, which is recognised on the IAFF world tour calendar.
Selected Nigerian athletes for the event went into camp yesterday at Ibadan. According to AFN member, Jide Josiah, the athletes were selected based on their performances at the three Classics events held in Makurdi, Lagos and Oghara.
